On a year’s sabbatical from her teaching job at William Murdock College, Sophie Rivers is spending as much time as possible with fiancé Mike Lowden and enjoying a stint as a volunteer for the Big Brum Bookfest - a new literary festival promising to cast Hay and Edinburgh into the shade.
Unfortunately for Sophie, someone out there is determined not just to sabotage the Bookfest, but also to cause Sophie the maximum amount of trouble in the process. First it’s the phone calls and letters threatening the festival’s most prestigious authors; then the Director succumbs to a mysterious illness; then, suddenly in charge of the project, Sophie herself becomes the victim of a vicious and terrifyingly knowledgeable stalker.
Personally involved or not, Sophie never could resist a mystery and it’s not long before she’s calling on old friend Superintendent Chris Groom to find out as much as she can about the case. But when the stalker turns murderer it’s clear she’s in way over her head...

'From P.D. James' Cordelia Gray onwards, British detective writing is crammed with feisty young female sleuths. But in Cutler's Sophie Rivers we are undoubtedly dealing with the crème de la crème' The Times

Detective Sergeant Kate Power is settling into her new life, and growing closer to her colleagues in the CID. But what seemed like a straightforward series of arson attacks results in the death of a vagrant and he murder is taking up Kate's professional time. Once the case is removed from Kate's capable hands, a quiet tennis lesson is interrupted by the discovery of a women's body in the tennis centre's showers. Her death appears to be from natural causes, but Kate suspects otherwise. Although it's not her case, and the DI in charge does not welcome her contribution, Kate soon finds that she isn't able to remain uninvolved.
As she was bonding with her squad in Birmingham's CID, Kate finds herself transferred to a new elite team much, however, against the will of the DI in charge. It's not long before she's suspended. And Kate finds herself fighting more than the obvious criminals.

'In the genre of female crime fighters, Cutler's Kate Power series is a tour de force.' The Good Book Guide
'Another top page-turner with an ending that promises more to come in the life of the strong-willed but long-suffering Kate.' Nuneaton Evening Telegraph

Dying by Degrees
Sophie Rivers has left the turmoil of her inner-city college to take an MEd course at the University of the West Midlands. She's not enjoying the course. Maybe it's too long since her first degree. Or maybe it's because fellow-student Jago Calvin is harassing her, while she's just missing love-of-her-life Mike Lowden, star of the England cricket team touring Australia. Or maybe it's that she's lost her touch as a teacher - she's getting nowhere with the group of South-East Asian students she's supposed to be helping with their English. When her tutor Tom Bowen ignores her problems, the obvious person for Sophie to confide in is the excellent lecturer Carla Pentowski. But there's something strange about Caria's past - or lack of it.
When some of her students start to behave oddly, Sophie talks to her old friend, Superintendent Chris Groom. But he has news of his own: the death on his patch of first one Malay girl, then another.
Then Carla disappears.
Who has hacked into the university's records? Who lies at the centre of the corruption Sophie uncovers? She's on the case - and the nearer she gets to the truth, the more unlikely it seems that she'll escape alive…

'British detective writing is crammed with feisty young female sleuths. But in Cutler's Sophie Rivers we are undoubtedly dealing with the crème de la crème' The Times
'An excellent example of the most popular character in crime fiction at the moment, Sophie is...feisty, liberated and attractive' Evening Standard
'If you haven't yet discovered this series...then you are in for a treat... Sophie is certainly the most realistic female sleuth around today' Bella

Staying Power
Flying home from Florence, DS Kate Power of Birmingham CID engages in a pleasant but trivial conversation with the businessman seated next to her. Two days later he's found hanging from a canal bridge - with Kate's card in his pocket as the only means of identification.
It look like a clear-cut case of suicide - but Kate isn't so sure. And, as her subsequent investigations prove, the cause of Alan Grafton's death - and its consequences - are more serious than she and her colleagues could ever have imagined.
Still regarded as a newcomer in the Birmingham police force, still battling against prejudice and intimidation among the ranks, still fighting to prove that she's got what it takes, Kate is determined to stick to her guns until she finally uncovers the shocking truth.

'The most imaginative and dashingly plotted of yet Cutler's novels featuring Birmingham DS Kate Power.' The Times
'What really makes the Kate Power novels different is the fact that the doughty sergeant is constantly at war with male chauvinists… It all adds up to Cutler on good form' Sunday Mercury

Dying to Score
Sophie Rivers is finally on holiday! She's left behind the stresses of a tough job, teaching at a deprived inner-city college in Birmingham, and has just started seeing the delectable Mike Lowden, one of the country's most exciting cricketers. When he suddenly becomes the prime suspect in the particularly nasty murder of a not-so-popular rival cricketer, Sophie's got too much to lose to remain merely a spectator…
Her old friend Chris Groom, now a Superintendent, is in charge of the investigation but finds that the messages he's sending to his team are going adrift. The more deeply that Sophie gets involved, the more sinister the circumstances appear. Does she have to nail a bent policeman as well as find the real murderer? Who drove another of Warwickshire's leading players to his death? And what is the identity of the mysterious motorcyclist who's begun to stalk her?
There's not a lot that will make Sophie stop asking questions: not even when someone makes it crystal clear that she herself is the next target…
