Chicken Out Chicken Out by Alma Fritchley
pbk out February 99 (Women's Press) at £6.99
Chicken Out is the third in a wonderfully quirky series featuring chicken farmer extraordinaire, the irrepressible Letty Campbell.
Life on the farm Letty inherited from her aunt is as turbulent as ever. When her neighbour George is found dead in strange circumstances a surprising number of people seem to be interested in the reading of the will, given the dilapidated state of both George and his farm. But even more intriguing, to Letty at least, is the beautiful and enigmatic niece who, despite being married, is definitely giving Letty the come on. Is the wool being deliberately drawn over Letty's eyes? And if so, Why? When a set of love letters turns up it soon becomes obvious that there was much more to George, his farm and Letty's aunt than anyone suspected. Revelation follows revelation as the story rises to its nail-biting climax.
This delightful blend of skilfully drawn (not to mention colourful) characters, action-packed plot, and hilarious one-liners, makes Chicken Out stand out from the crowd and definitely gives the Women's Press something to crow about! All of the Letty Campbell mysteries are well-written and engrossing, and Chicken Out is the best yet. Letty is definitely here to stay.
Guaranteed to raise a smile if not a guffaw, the most fun you'll have with eggs this Easter!
