This novel ticks a lot of boxes.
It has a female cop – tick.
She has a slightly rogue partner – tick.
She also has unresolved family issues, specifically a father (also a cop)
whose death is down to suicide but who she believes was murdered – tick.
She has a brother who has lifestyle and alcohol problems, but she still
loves him very much and helps him all she can – tick.
And on to the novel itself.
There's a serial killer – tick.
And some of the narration is from the serial killer's point of view – tick.
The victims are all women, some of easier virtue than others – tick.
The FBI are hovering on the outskirts – tick.
There are false trails, false assumptions, false documents, false hopes –
tick.
It's by Alafair Burke – lots more ticks
And it really looks as if it might be the first in a new series – and there go all
the ticks left in the packet.
