Harry in Richard Burke's Frozen has a friend, an old school friend, Verity, a long standing and very much still
burning flame of his. The couple meet up regularly, as friends, to chat in the
local pub, but, one assigned evening Verity doesn't turn up. It turns out that
earlier in the day Verity has been found on the rocks beneath Beachy Head,
badly injured by the fall she seems condemned to life in a coma. Suicide attempt
or not?
There follows Harry's quest to answer the unanswered with the aid of
another old school friend Adam. As in the above novel the answer lies in the past.
Through the remembrance of one school summer and Harry's relating of his
continuing obsession with the wilful, flighty, enigmatic Verity, Burke uncovers a
story of betrayal and brutality and the unseen consequences of child hood games.
