Typical. You wait for many years for a Detection Club anthology and then two come
along in quick succession. Turning up hard on the heels of last year's 'Detection
Collection' is this anthology, which celebrates the 80th birthday of former Club
President H.R.F. Keating. A similar honour was bestowed upon Keating's friend and
predecessor as President, the late, great Julian Symons. There is a foreword by Dick
Francis and a wide range of contributions, each prefaced by a note from the author,
offering affectionate tributes to Keating, a very popular man as well as a writer and
critic of distinction. Among the highlights are a piece of wizardry from Colin Dexter,
a rare short story from Len Deighton, and a very entertaining tale from Tim Heald,
which marks the return to the detecting fray of Sir (yes!) Simon Bognor.
