Tangled Web UK Review March 2003

Endless Night by
Agatha Christie

Published in 1967, this book is perhaps the most successful of Christie's later years.
In some ways, it is an especially clever re-working of a classic story she had written
more than four decades earlier, but in many respects it is very different from anything
else she wrote. The story is told by Michael Rogers, a young man who falls in love
with a place called Gypsy's Acre and fantasises about building a house there and
meeting the girl of his dreams. Within weeks he meets the lovely (and rich) Ellie
Goodman and his wishes start to come true – but not in the way he had hoped. It
would be unfair to say much about the cunningly contrived plot, but although this is
not an orthodox whodunit, it is one of Christie's most chilling and compelling novels.
