Deadly Friends by
Stuart Pawson
pbk out October 05
(Allison Busby)
at £6.99
First published in 1998, this Charlie Priest book opens with a dramatic prologue,
ending with the killing of Dr Clive Jordan and a scarcely less arresting first chapter,
which begins: 'Christmas Eve we had a rape.' Pawson has an unblinking eye for what
is wrong with the world, but thankfully he has a rich sense of humour too, and it is
this, coupled with Charlie's sheer likeability, that make his books stand out in a
crowded field.
