Judith Cutler's latest police novel features Chief Superintendent Frances Harman,
who responds to pleas from the Chief Constable to delay her retirement plans in order
to oversee a troubling investigation. Fran is a humane character of the type that Cutler
creates with seeming ease, and her relationship with colleague ACC Mark Turner, and
her regard for DCI Jill Tanner, who is suspected of having a drug problem, are well-
portrayed. This Kent-based story is composed with Cutler's customary
professionalism and will be welcomed by her many fans.
