Forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan (Tempe) is known as the bone doctor. She spends her days sorting flesh, assisting in identifying human remains and uncovering the stories they hold for the authorities in the state of Quebec.
A biker war is raging in the province and two of the foot soldiers have blown themselves up. Tempe is trying to put the pieces back together (literally). Then a child is killed. A nine-year old girl caught in the crossfire. Tempe, sickened and angry, determines to do all she can to bring the killers to justice and to undermine the rule of the violent gangs. An exhumation as a result of a tip off from a disgruntled biker brings a new mystery and Tempe works day and night to unlock the secrets of the bones. When her nephew Kit turns up for a visit, revealing a passion for classic bikes and begins to associate with the bikers, Tempe’s troubles multiply.
Deadly Decisions is a great read, confident and enthralling. Temperance Brennan is an attractive character, compassionate and intelligent with a welcome wry wit. There is plenty of detailed gore in the book - not one for the squeamish. This is the third Kathy Reichs book, the others have both been best-sellers and this one should certainly follow.
