Twenty-seven-year-old Nick is on his first overseas posting – to war-torn Lebanon.
He's put in charge of an organisation that searches for missing people although he is
soon approached by officials from the British embassy and asked to engage in more
clandestine activities. Twenty-year-old Reem is a young woman who sets out to
captivate Nick. Her interest isn't just romantic – she is a newly trained terrorist and
Nick can give her access to the eastern sector of the city of Beirut and to the right-
wing warlord who is standing for presidency. Reem's family are dead, victims of the
conflict, and everything she cares about has gone – with nothing left to lose she
volunteers for the ultimately deadly mission as a suicide bomber.
A gripping account of a country shattered by occupation and civil war written by
former Reuters correspondent Fullerton who was bureau chief in Beirut during that
time. Terrific tension as the story builds towards its tragic climax. Timely too, in its
insight into what creates a suicide bomber.
