E. Robert Pendleton lives the life of a bitterly disappointed academic, an
author now jealous of other writers' greater success who is barely
clinging to his tenure at Bannockburn College. With nothing published in
ten years and no future to speak of, suicide seems to be the answer, but
literature student Adi Wiltshire saves Pendleton. During his recuperation,
Adi discovers an unpublished novel in Pendleton's basement. 'Scream'
tells the story of a gruesome child murder and when Adi enables it to be
published there is a furore. Not least because the book so closely
resembles a real life murder that has never been solved. A wicked parody
of the campus novel and a great debunker of the study of literature and
the hallowed halls of academia this is also a satisfying and very funny
whodunit.
