The Buried Circle by
Jenni Mills
pbk out May 10

Jenni Mills blends fact and fiction with an inventive dual time narrative in her second novel: a rich story that takes in paganism, stone circles, archaeology, alternative culture and television production. Camera operator India is devastated by an aerial filming accident and returns to her grandmother’s Wiltshire home to lick her wounds and re-think her future.
Grandmother Frannie, who has raised Indy for much of her life, is becoming frail.
An archaeological project focused around the works done in Avebury by maverick
archaeologist Keiller in the late 1930s, stirs up the hidden history of the area.
It reawakens Indy’s curiosity about her own grandfather as well as dreadful memories
linked to a tragedy in Indy’s childhood. While Indy faces her ghosts, her grandmother’s
narrative also unfolds, filling in the missing pieces in the history of the village
and the strange practices enjoyed by Keiller and his coterie which had a shattering
impact upon the young Frannie amongst others. There is one coincidence that some
readers may not find completely convincing but that is a small quibble in a big
book. Jenni Mills showed she could tell a great story with original and vibrant
characters in her debut Crowstone,
The
Buried Circle will garner her even more fans and accolades.
