Rose and James Miller have re-located to rural bliss in deepest Gloucestershire. Rose, a former hot-shot journalist, is reduced to carrying all the domestic responsibility and doing a day a week on the dull local paper while millionaire hubby James continues his work in the music and entertainment industry. But behind the glossy lifestyle lurks a very dark past. The couple were part of an Oxford university clique whose drink and drug fuelled antics led to shocking and tragic events. A potential story about a local business man draws Rose’s interest but leads her back to the past she had hoped was buried forever. Seeber excels at introducing paranoia and doubt into hearth and home and in depicting flawed characters mired in difficulty. As in her previous books, the rendition of life with small children is spot on. A twisting, nightmarish story with a fine level of suspense as the narrative moves between past and present.
