New mother Jess Finnegan is trying to enjoy a family outing to the Tate Modern with her prickly husband Mickey and infant son Louis when she becomes separated from them. A frantic search of the building proves fruitless. Fighting panic Jess makes her way home but they are not there. The police launch a hunt for the missing pair and find Mickey unconscious and badly beaten, but there is no sign of Louis. The nightmare scenario is an excellent premise for a thriller and Seeber’s depiction of Jess’s fear and increasing paranoia is well handled, as is the exploration of the physical and emotional challenges that having a tiny baby brings. A confident debut from journalist and documentary maker Seeber written with panache.
