Tom Bryce, a businessman with money troubles, discovers a CD on the train home
and tries to identify the owner by opening it on his laptop. What he sees is the
sickening murder of a young woman, but there's worse to come: if he tells anyone
about the disk his wife and children will be targeted. Tom and wife Kellie agree to do
the honourable thing and go to the police but this signals the beginning of a journey
into a world of terrifying violence. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a man with a
penchant for spiritualists, who is also a widower embarking on the world of dating
with much trepidation, is in charge of the Bryce case. Tom and Kellie's deaths are
advertised on the internet and will be filmed live unless Grace can find the couple in
time. This is a page-turning novel, in the vein of Harlan Coben, with its study of an
ordinary man thrust into an extraordinary and frightening world. Grace is an
attractive creation who appeared originally in the award-winning Dead Simple. Both
novels are set in Brighton where James lives.
