A woman flees the scene of a car crash on the Baltimore Beltway and
later claims to be Heather Bethany, one of two sisters who disappeared,
believed to be abducted, from a shopping mall thirty years earlier and
have never been traced. Is the woman telling the truth and if so why is
she so reluctant to tell the police what happened or what became of her
sister, Sunny? The police suspect she is faking, a fantasist perhaps or
simply trying to buy time and evade any prosecution. She is assigned a
social worker and lawyer, while the police examine the cold case
surrounding the disappearance and try to make contact with the girls'
mother. Lippman's latest stand-alone novel is a really tantalising read
with well rounded characters and unpredictable elements to the story.
Lippman is a past-master at spinning the suspense and keeping us glued
to the book.
