A strong series debut from Reading based author Lennon, which introduces DI Tom Fletcher
and his partner DS Sal Moresby. In the Cambridge Fens, in the height of summer, the corpse
of a man is found mutilated by an agricultural shredder. It's the start of an investigation that
takes in the phenomenon of Russian mail order brides as well as the ancient village rite of the
Thinbeach Wedding and even something of the history of tractors in the UK. Amongst
evocative descriptions of a British summer and the Fen landscapes, Lennon gives us a sharp
plot which canters towards an explosive finish. Fletcher is a character with a past only partly
explored in this first novel and the type of detective who faces difficult moral choices in a
world where good and evil aren't always clear cut.
