Several years ago I reviewed the true crime classic Dead And
Buried, written by a young law graduate called Corey Mitchell, and
named it as my book of the year. In 2007, Corey contacted me for the
first time to say that he was setting up a true crime blog and would I be
the British representative? I was honoured to accept and the blog is now
active at www.incoldblogger.blogspot.co.uk
I've just finished Corey's latest book, Strangler, and it's equally
well written. It tells the true story of Texas-based Anthony Allen Shore
who murdered three young women and a nine-year-old girl for sexual
kicks. Shore had the talent to become a professional musician but instead
opted for a series of menial jobs, He could have been a loving husband
but chose to semi-strangle his girlfriends and both of his wives, an action
which was erotic for him but not for them.
Most killers have one or two redeeming features but Anthony
Allen Shore was completely narcissistic, to the extent that he even
molested his own daughters. Thankfully he's now on Death Row.
Strangler is a chilling but immensely readable and impeccably
researched look at a murderous psychopath and the women who had the
misfortune to cross his path.
