Rex Krebs endured the childhood from hell - and by his teenage years
he'd become a sexual predator. His first attempted rape was dealt with
leniently but for his second he received twenty years. Unfortunately the
authorities let him out after a decade and he went on to commit further
sexual offences. But this time he also killed twice.
Dead And Buried charts Rex's life from his birth to his two death penalty
sentences, showing a sad life which ultimately becomes a sociopathic and
sadistic one. Tellingly, various professionals knew he was being abused
but let him return again and again to his violent dad.
Many true crime books are swiftly and shoddily written but this is
impeccably researched and totally gripping. It's the best biography of a
sadistic killer I've read in years.
It's especially poignant that Corey Mitchell's wife Lisa was a rape
survivor who championed his work and its message that we shouldn't
parole violent rapists. She died unexpectedly at the age of thirty eight and
Corey writes in the introduction that 'she never got to help other rape
victims. Maybe now she can.'
