One in ten killers get away with murder, but former detective Peter
Bleksley had a hundred percent detection rate when he worked for the
police force. Here he examines the UK's most memorable unsolved
homicides.
Interestingly, it looks as if several of these murders were unplanned.
Wayne Trotter, set alight as he walked past a community centre, may
simply have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Similarly, Milly
Dowler could have been abducted by an impulsive stranger. And Jan
Aylward, driving home in his BMW with its tinted windows, may have
been shot in a case of mistaken identity.
In other instances, the victims drew attention to themselves by
flamboyantly displaying their wealth or by being involved in criminal
activities. Another was possibly killed as a result of a long-held grudge.
There's obviously limited information about each case because we don't
know who the killer is, but Bleksley makes up for this by giving forensic
and police procedural information. He also appeals to the general public
to help solve these brutal crimes.
