The seventh in the author's Michael Angel series, about a detective-
inspector in a northern police force.
The glamorous assistant to a stage magician is murdered years after they
gave up the act and the local MP is threatened with having his house
blown up, after several similar incidents with other politicians.
Some of the plot is frankly unbelievable and the story-line is somewhat
disjointed. A white van keeps being mentioned, but it seems to have no
part in the plot whatsoever. The home of the main suspect is found to
have a dozen umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, the significance of
which is explained at the end. We are not given much in the way of
characterisation, apart from the fact that DI Angel is grumpy and short-
tempered, and his boss the Superintendent is equally unattractive.
