A typical contemporary American crime novel, catering to the present obsession with ‘Crime Scene Investigation’, combined with the bonus of a psychopathic serial killer.
Following on from a previous book, a female forensic laboratory operative, CSI Darby McCormick, is assigned by the Boston Chief of Police to looking into two cases of murdered girls, one washed up months later in the river, with a small statue of the Madonna sewn into her pocket. The investigation leads Darby to a former FBI agent who has gone rogue and is wanted for serial killings.
The book is redolent with scientific gizmos and techniques, with a string of acknowledgements for technical help at the back. It is a big book of over four hundred pages and for those who have the stamina to plough through it, it has a wealth of police and forensic procedural stuff that will delight those who are that way inclined.
