This is a true-crime book in paperback format, written by a retired
Glasgow detective and a journalist with many factual crime books to his
credit.
Les Brown revisits a number of Scottish 'hard cases' - ones in which
either the outcome remains controversial or there was no outcome at all,
they remaining unsolved. Brown had previously formed an organisation
to seek justice in such problems and the book describes his involvement
with a number of them. There are so many books that re-hash crimes,
usually murder, and most are straight journalistic 'lifts' from newspaper
files, but this one has the added dimension of Les Brown's committed
interest in the human and family side of the cases.
The book will be a useful addition to the libraries of those interested in
true crime, but the fact that this deals only with Scottish cases must
inevitably limit its general appeal outside that country.
