A straight-forward police procedural 'whodunnit', concerning the hunt for a serial killer. Six women, all of whom have long black hair and live alone, are getting obscene phone calls. Then one gets stabbed in a lonely restaurant and another is strangled, at home - so panic all round to guard the remaining women. According to the front pages, this is Jane Bolitho's seventeenth book in nine years, turning out one every six months. Perhaps this is what gives an impression of a production-line job, and I found the story hard to get into at first, as too many people - six women, half a dozen suspects and a gaggle of detectives - are all introduced rather too quickly, so the reader has to keep turning back to recollect who's who. However, it picks up satisfactorily and there is a nice double twist at the end.
