Dangerous Women by

A paperback collection of seventeen short stories, chosen and introduced by
editor Otto Penzler. There are some well-known names in the author list,
such as Anne Perry, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly, Jeffrey Deaver and Ed
McBain, so quality is assured!
The common factor in all the contributions is that they concern women who
in some way put one over on the fellows, either by cunning or outright
malice. Most of the tales are from the USA – no surprise these days – and
almost all are set in contemporary surroundings, except for Anne Perry's
'twenties story. All but three of the authors are men and a certain wry
masculine fatalism about women's wiles can be detected in a few of the
submissions.
I enjoyed this collection, even if not a fan of reading short stories – though I
like writing them!
