There were two splashes in London that night....
The first was a body dropping into the Thames with a bullet hole where the brain ought to be - a body that used to belong to Claudine Tournier, 'green cuisine' queen and wife of a top City money man.
The second was tabloid crime hack Max Chard's exclusive story on her killing, splashed all over the front page of his paper.
But murder is only half the yarn. With Frankie, his snap-happy photographer, in tow Max tangles with captains of industry, rock stars, politicians and similar layabouts all over the UK, Switzerland and Sri Lanka in his pursuit of the whole steamy story. And what a right little cracker this one turns out to be.
The world of the tabloid crime reporter provides a superb background to this fresh and stylish book - a fast-moving story shot through with snappy, sardonic humour.

'If you're Into comedy thrillers, then Hack is for you. I promise you, Its the funniest read of the year.' The Sun
Sensational, the plot never slackens, the twists just keep on coming.' Daily Express

John Burns is an award-winning Fleet Street journalist and author. He worked for the Daily Express for many years as their crime reporter, and is now a freelance journalist. He lives with his wife and sons in London. Hack is the first in the Max Chard series.

The alleged bigamy of King George V. .. The theft of rise Irish Crown Jewels in 1907. .. The bizarre circumstances of the death of President Faure' of France... Such dramas are not fiction but historical reality.
In this very well written and convincing volume, the investigations described relate the part played by the seat detective in seven major crimes or scandals of the day, some of them too damaging to the monarchy or the security of the nation to be fully revealed at the time. These stories stand head and shoulders above all other pastiches because they use real people and real historical events .
