Val McDermid has also taken part in numerous events in libraries, bookshops and with writers' groups throughout the UK. Her work has been extensively reviewed in the national and regional press, and she has made frequent appearances on national and local radio, including Woman's Hour, The World Tonight, Crime Desk and Kaleidoscope. She is an occasional contributor to the BBC Radio Five magazine programme After Midnight. She has tutored for the Arvon Foundation and is a regular after-dinner speaker. She was selected as a participant on a screenwriting course sponsored by Carlton Television.
