Punch is a beautiful man in his forties, slowly dying from alcohol abuse and diabetes. Juliette is his adoring girlfriend, in her twenties, and willing to do absolutely anything for him. Together they have made a twisted pact: to live a wild life in Key West, collecting material for the book Punch is compelled to write before they end it all a year later.
Tearing through the Keys, they throw themselves with fearless abandon into increasingly crazy situations: Juliette flashes at a stranger; Punch spends an evening in a restaurant pretending to be blind; they break into Hemingway's house to have sex in the master bedroom. Living without rules and with no-one to answer to except each other, they hurtle towards an outrageous climax.
Iguana Love, Vicki Hendricks' previous book, was an unflinching look at sexual obsession. Voluntary Madness is an equally unflinching look at the madness of love. Funny, colorful and erotic, this a truly one-off love story - Bonnie and Clyde rewritten by Carl Hiaasen. It confirms Hendricks' place in the pantheon of contemporary noir writers.

Iguana Love
See Review by Jay Russell - one of the greatest talents the horror industry has produced for some time… (Black Tears)
Attractive and perverse, Ramona Romano is a thrill-seeking redhead addicted to adventure.
Separated from her husband, she soon finds scuba diving and bodybuilding insufficiently exciting. So she uses her strength to dominate man after man, testing herself as a lover, as well as a sportsperson. Thanks to relentless training and heavy steroid use, Ramona's strength soon exceeds that of most men. But there’s one man who matches her in coolness and detachment, one man who can make her do anything he wants and then beg for more. Enzo. Her most tantalising challenge, her obsession and the man who lures her into a dark world of heroin and murder.
Miami Purity, Vicki Hendricks' first novel, reclaimed for women a genre too often seen as male-only. Iguana Love takes further her unique mix of muscle, sex and violence.
Praise for Miami Purity
'A hymn to American trash culture' New York Times Book Review
'This book is an instant red-neck idiot savant classic: so gruesome and deadpan outlandish that you wind up baying at the moon like a Florida coon dog' James Ellroy
'Some may call it pornographic, but I say thank God someone's finally written a thriller which is also art' Julie Myerson, Mail on Sunday
'Unambiguously dirty and perversely sweet… washes blacker than any other novel you're likely to read this year' GQ
'a white-trash classic' Arena

`In stretching noir's sexual borders so far, beating at the boundaries of gender in a style of deceptive intelligence and disconcerting wit, Hendricks has achieved something important and new... The dead diviners of noir's masculine psyche - Chandler, Hammett and Cain -might be shocked at such manoeuvres. But Hendricks is their first true female equivalent' Independent on Sunday
`If James M Cain were a woman and alive today, the postman would only ring once on the doors of the sultry Miami condos inhabited by Hendricks' characters in heat. Guaranteed to raise your temperature, whatever the weather' Guardian
'A guilty pleasure to savour slowly' Time Out
`Part thriller, part porn, part redneck comedy, Iguana Love is gleefully immoral, a style that relishes its own perversity and is seductive in its brutality' Arena
