Tamison is a flightless falcon: a worthless man who cannot even work to feed his family. Once a miner like the rest of his kin, he lost his nerve after a cave-in which trapped him and killed his father and brother. Now he's reduced to occasional menial labour and scavenging for food. In desperation he breaks into the hunters' guild to steal meat to feed his starving family and is caught.
On his release from four years in prison, Tamison discovers his beloved wife and children have vanished, stolen away by the Brotherhood. Renaming himself in their image, Sueldan, as he is now known, will not rest until he has found and rescued his family from the clutches of the evil slavemasters who apparently hold them hostage.
Joined by a ratty stray dog, then a fortune teller with a magical ability, a renegade guard whose own sister was lost to the Brotherhood and a mysterious conman who knows more than he's letting on, Sueldan sets off on a quest that means more to him than life itself.
But if he is to rescue his wife and children from slavery, he must discover his own wings and take flight.
This is a riveting tale of growth and redemption from a master storyteller. Set in a mediaeval fantasy world where nothing is quite as it seems, Flightless Falcon will keep you guessing until the last page.

The Children of Wrath
The sixth Renshai novel
The lowest born will never know how little joy, how little freedom, wealth and status confer…
Tae, has seen many changes in his life: the rise from street urchin to prince is not something he looked for, nor is it a role he relishes. And Tae has other new responsibilities to consider - he and his closest friends are charged with breaking the Dark Elves' curse of sterility on the humans of Midguard, with finding the lost shards of the sapphire, the mythical Pica, that might hold the key to the elvish magic. In order to do this he must ensure that Rascal - like him brought up on the streets, still suspicious of all in authority, unpredictable and amoral - plays her part in finding the Pica and does not jeopardise the future of their world.
In Valhalla, Colbey Calistinsson, the immortal Renshai, watches and waits. While the humans of Midguard fight their battles, he must ensure that the gods themselves, and Odin in particular, do not shatter the Balance of the Worlds ...

Paperback - Orion (1998)
Prince of Demons
'What makes a Renshai is not kinship, but a single-minded devotion to swordcraft'
The elves have determined to have their revenge on humanity - Colbey Calistinsson having brought them to the brink of extinction before he departed for Valhalla.
While the Renshai warrior, Princess Matrinka, is hunting down the last untested heir to Beam's throne, the Dark Elves are, by a mixture of magic and cunning, persuading the people that their king is not dead. Lulled into a false sense of security the Bearnians do not realise that the elves have cast a spell of infertility on all but a few of their number. Before long, Griff, new King of Beam, should he pass the test of the Staffs of Law and Chaos, won't have a people to rule ... unless he and the Renshai can find a flaw in the Dark Lives' magic.

and Jennifer Wingert
In a magic-laced land, the art of warfare is forbidden and it seems that peace is assured for all eternity. But even in peace, there is peril, and the arrival of a well-trained foreign army, complete with Mages who practise the forbidden sixth magic of destruction threatens extermination of an entire civilisation.
Kiarda was destined to be spirit-linked to a fox, sharing thought, emotion and even physical sensation, but when the cub was destroyed at the moment both it and Kiarda were being born, its spirit had nowhere to go but into the infant girl's own body.
And now, though all the dwellers of the Marchlands are at risk, the Mages have singled out for total annihilation the magic-gifted healers and the spirit-linked.
Targeted for destruction, what chance does Kiarda have?

'You would damn yourself and my child to Hel for a prophecy that bodes as much evil as good? Let the wizards handle their own damned prophecies. . .'
For centuries, four wizards have held the delicate balance of power in the troubled Northlands. But the balance is shifting and the squabbling human tribes are dragging the mortal world towards the long foretold Great War. The Gods in Valhalla watch and wait as the ancient name of Renshai brings a sentence of death to each of the tribes...
Colbey Calistinsson is the Last of the Renshai and seeks bloody vengeance for the genocide of his race - a genocide the boy Rache's mother knew was coming when she dragged him from a fatal attack. On Colbey's fate, and that of the untried boy Rache, hangs the preservation - or the damnation - of the entire world.
