Beam Me Up Scotty
An international best-seller, Michael Guinzburg's Beam Me Up, Scotty is the darkest, edgiest, most hilarious novel ever to emerge from the slimy pimpled underbelly of Crack City, USA.
New York's East Village is a carnival of crackerjacks and junkies - and Ed T was one of them, a connoisseur of the lowlife highlife. Ed has lost his wife, his kids, his job, and most of his self-respect to 'the disease' of addiction, but now, thanks to the twelve steps of Hard Drugs Anonymous, Ed's making a comeback - with a savage vengeance.
Armed with his trusty Glock, and accompanied by a faithful bull terrier named Natasha, Ed takes his message of recovery to the streets... and begins dealing salvation in lethal doses. The consequences are brutal, outrageous and bitterly funny. 'Tough love' has never been tougher.

"A great book. The hardest, purest American prose since Faulkner's Sanctuary" Terry Southern
"A fictionalised account of a violent and terrifying drop - not a descent - into a hell far more appalling than anything-imagined by William Burroughs, Jean Genet, Hubert Selby Jr., or other probers of the lower depths. A remarkable and powerful document." George Plimpton
"impressive., written in seamless, fast-moving prose that never disappoints." Philadelphia Inquirer
"Michael Guinzburg is a sharp-eared, sharp-eyed and very funny satirist whose Beam Me Up, Scotty has an eloquent 'tough love' message for those - perhaps especially for those - who may be outraged by it." Peter Matthiessen
"Welcome to the writing of the future." New York Newsday
"I was nauseated by the carnage." New York times
"Michael Guinzburg's first novel comes like a bolt of thunder... A fitting companion to the work of Chester Himes." Dimanche (Paris)
