Murray Kinston has served three years for molesting his daughter. He now claims he was framed and his only hope of getting her back is an old friend, solicitor Tam Buchanan.
In Tam’s view the friendship ended the day Murray was convicted, but his new assistant has other ideas. When Buchanan first met ‘Fizz’, he was fooled by her innocent appearance and convinced she would be unable to stand the pace of his busy Edinburgh office. But her cherubic looks belie the reality - soon to be a law student, she’s bright and single-minded with a talent for making people talk.
Tam finds himself helping Fizz to dig into Murray’s past and she is soon convinced she knows who set him up - but then a development permanently rules out her suspect and she begins to wonder if her confidence in his innocence is entirely justified.

James Bryce has over fifteen years’ experience in voice work, including children’s readings, commercial story tapes, voice-over work and over 150 broadcasts for the BBC. Whilst television credits include The Bill, Take the High Road and Taggart, he has also worked extensively in theatre and is a composer of music in the fields of theatre, jazz-rock, folk and brass band.

Solicitor Tam Buchanan and his friend and colleague Fizz Fitzgerald are on a hill-walking holiday in the Scottish Highlands when they witness an horrific car crash. Administering First Aid, Fizz and Buchanan hear the dying wish of the crash victim - a plea to protect the second passenger in the car, an elderly gentleman with a price on his head.
Their charge, Scott McKenzie, more than partial to a wee dram, can remember nothing about the previous few days, let alone why he should be the focus of a deadly manhunt. All they can glean is that a gun was fired and that somewhere there is a building with high ceilings that could be significant. With lives - and careers - in the balance, Fizz and Buchanan refuse to back out now.

Joe Dunlop’s many TV appearances include Brookside, Take the High Road, Taggart, Keeping Up Appearances and In Suspicious Circumstances. His theatre work includes One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Wild Oats, and Last Resort. He is also a highly experienced broadcaster and has been a member of the BBC Radio Drama Rep. He continues to perform in many radio plays as well as writing plays for the BBC.

When Vanessa Grassick and her neighbour Jamie Ford die in a gas explosion, Tam Buchanan wishes his practice were anywhere but Edinburgh. His law firm is executor of Vanessa’s will and this case is promising serious trouble. While the police report declares the deaths a tragic accident, Tam has reason to believe there’s a lot more to it. But can he afford to suspect a cover-up when Vanessa’s husband is the city’s most influential advocate - a man who could make or break his career?
It’s not long before morality and Fizz’s gentle persuasion win out, and Tam and his irrepressible assistant find themselves scouting for clues in the tiny village of Chirnside, where Mrs Grassick died. Unfortunately, however set they may be on discovering the truth, someone seems even more determined to ensure they never do.

‘Holms is adroit at creating a diverting cocktail of suspense and humour.’ The Times

When Chick Mathieson, one of the better known drug barons in Edinburgh, is killed, lawyer Tam Buchanan finds himself wading through the dodgy dealings of the underworld. Freddie McAuslan, the young man arrested for Mathieson’s murder, is an ex-client of Buchanan’s father who has recently done time for a crime that was almost certainly committed by Mathieson. Both Buchanan and his father are convinced of Freddie’s innocence and set out to prove it, aided by Fizz and her grandpa, who is in Edinburgh for an operation on his famous clicking knees. The trail leads to a sheltered housing unit for indigent show-biz geriatrics, run originally by the Comedy Club, a background which, on the surface, could not be further removed from the murky world of Edinburgh crime . . .
‘Engaging and entertaining, it builds to a spectacular climax . . . Deft, daft and definitely delicious’ Val McDermid
