Derailed
What if you walked on a train one morning and everything changed?
For Charles Schine it begins as a quiet, ordinary day with a simple commute to work until he meets the seductive mysterious Lucinda Harris - an encounter that will irrevocably wreck his life.
A dazzling thriller from a terrific new talent, Derailed is a captivating mix of atmosphere, emotion and page-turning power. Plotted to perfection, it will leave you breathless as it twists and turns to its heart-pounding, suspenseful conclusion.
‘Derailed sure derailed me for a couple of nights. What a neat, twisty, well-written thriller! James Siegel has arrived in high style’ James Patterson
‘Literally Impossible to put down’ Lee Child
‘Siegel keeps the tension high by focusing on the pressure that force a basically decent man into desperate manoeuvring … nifty twists… and a roaring conclusion’ People
‘The buzz is warranted: this story of a middle class professional whose life goes indelibly, criminally awry is on of the most exciting thrillers in years….With its clean prose, high velocity plotting and just the right amount of emotional shading darkening its sharply drawn characters, this novel is a bomb’ Publishers Weekly
‘Mesmerizing from the first chapter, the novel is full of whiplash twists, compelling characters and visceral and wrenching dramatic moments’ James W.Hall
‘Derailed is not so much a novel, as an ingenious little machine that seizes you, intrigues you, titillates you, and finally cuts you loose, a bit bewildered but with a smile on your face...Derailed is popular fiction at its slickest and should find a multitude of readers.’
Washington Post
‘Derailed plays upon the ordinary, teasing its most violent and exploitative daydreams out of the mundane’ New York Times
‘A whopper of a story…tautly written and cleverly plotted with plenty of roller coaster turns that nicely contrast with the blandness of suburban life with the dark underworld that Charles has entered’ USA Today
‘Derailed is very effective … Really creepy, Really scary’ New York Daily News
‘Derailed is indeed a page turner, pared down, fast paced, full of twists and surprises and a strong ending’ New York Newsday
