Volume Two of the Pearl Saga
A compelling tale of heroism and sacrifice, intrigue and magic...
The V’ornn invasion has brought Kundala to the brink of catastrophe. And now Riane, the newly incarnated Dar Sala-at, hero of ancient prophecy, must face a new danger. Her protector and mentor, the Kundalan sorceress Giyan, is gradually being possessed by a powerful daemon. In order to save her, Riane must find the fabled Veil of a Thousand Tears, said to have been created from the tears of the Five Sacred Dragons of Miina. But Riane is not the only one who seeks the Veil. The sinister V’ornn Nith Batoxxx has his own reasons for pursuing this mystical object. And he will stop at nothing in his quest; soon Riane will be fighting for her life, just as Giyan’s existence, and with it the safety of Kundala, hangs in the balance.
Love and loyalty are tested to the limit in this richly imagined epic fantasy.

`The centuries-long occupation of Kundala and its by now subtle oppression is ably drawn ... pulls all the right levers’ SFX

In the same tradition as Frank Herbert’s Dune series, and on the same grand scale; The Pearl Saga is a huge new fantasy set in a richly imagined world on the cusp of momentous change.
For one hundred and one years the technologically advanced V’ornn have ruled over the planet Kundala. And for one hundred and one years the legendary, all-powerful Pearl has been lost. Ever since the V’ornn invasion the oppressed Kundalans have been dwindling in strength. Their religion is dying, their magic fading and their goddess all but forgotten. Only the fabled and long-awaited Dar Sala-at, the hero of ancient prophecy, can save them from extinction.
Annon Ashera, a V’ornn prince of the highest caste, anticipates succeeding his father as Regent, but destiny has a far more bizarre and ironic future in store for him. When he dies in strange and tragic circumstances he is astonished to find himself reborn, his spirit fused into the body of a young Kundalan female. As the newly-incarnated Dar Sala-at the fate of Kundala lies in his hands. Only he can wield the Ring of Five Dragons and so rediscover the Pearl. He must simultaneously battle his own people, the mighty V’ornn empire, ruled by the mysterious and dangerous Gyrgon, and resolve his inner struggle to overcome deeply ingrained prejudiced and come to terms with his unique identity. If he cannot do so the Pearl will never be found, and the Kuridalans are doomed to slavery.
Against the backdrop of this fast-paced and compelling saga, best-selling author Eric Van Lustbader insightfully explores the universal themes that have driven civilizations since the dawn of time: the conflicts between good and evil, technology and spiritualism; male and female, faith and despair.
